Itinerary

01 SINGAPORE BEIJING XIAN

On arrival at Xian, proceed to visit Hanyangling Museum, a museum which combines modern technology, ancient civilization, historical culture and garden scenery. It is built at the base of the joint tomb of Emperor Jindi and his Empress, the fourth Emperor of the Western Han Dynasty. Next visit the 13.6km long Xian City wall the most complete and well-preserved feudal fortress in China.

02 XIAN LINGTONG XIAN

This morning, visit The Terracotta Warriors the famous statue army buried with the Emperor Qin Shihuang. Back to the city center, we will visit the Big Goose Pagoda, built in AD652 to house over 600 sets of Buddhist scriptures brought to China from India by the revered monk, Xuan Zang.

03 XIAN TIANSHUI

After breakfast, proceed to Tianshui. En-route, visit Mount. Maiji which is translated as “wheat pile”. It is well known as one of the 4 most famous caverns in China. There are 194 caves, with more than 7200 statues of Buddha.

04 TIANSHUI LANZHOU

This morning, proceed to Lanzhou. On arrival, visit The First Yellow River Bridge and Statue of Mother of Yellow River a notable art sculpture along the Yellow River. The sculpture connotes that the Yellow River has nourished generations of Chinese. Next, visit Waterwheel Park which exhibits the ancient irrigation methods of farmers along the river.

05 LANZHOU YONGJING WUWEI

Visit Bingling Temple Grottoes a series of grottoes filled with Buddhist sculpture carved into natural caves and caverns in a canyon along the Yellow River. The style of each grotto can easily be connected to the typical artwork from its corresponding dynasty. Interestingly, the Bingling Temple is both stylistically and geographically a midpoint between the monumental Buddha of Bamiyan in Afghanistan and the Buddhist Grottoes of central China.

06 WUWEI ZHANGYE

After breakfast, visit Kumarajiva Temple and Pagoda, said to have been built for keeping the bones of Kumarajiva, an eminent monk in the late Qin Dynasty. After which, continue drive to Zhangye and visit Big Buddha Temple, built in 1098. It is the largest architectural relic in Gansu Province of the Western Xia (1038-1227) period. China’s largest reclining Buddha is well preserved in this temple. Our last stop today is the Danxia National Geological Park – the only composite area for Danxia landform and colorful hilly landscape in China. Famous for its overlapped layers, steep cliffs, magnificent vigor, strange shapes and intriguing colors, it’s the most valuable in appreciation and largest in area.

07 ZHANGYE JIAYUGUAN

Drive to Jiayuguan this morning. On arrival, visit Jiayuguan Fort. Built in the Ming Dynasty (1327 A.D.), it have been well known in the world for its historical and strategic importance, its majestic grandeur and its supreme splendor. As early as 2000 years ago, it had already become an important place on the Silk Route. Next, visit the Cantilever Great Wall. These parts of the Great Wall wriggle half way up the precipitous Black Mountain from the Gobi Desert and appear hanging precariously in the air. This is why it is referred to as “The Great Wall Hanging on a precipice”.

08 JIAYUGUAN DUNHUANG

After breakfast, set off to Dunhuang ~ an old cultural city situated along the Hexi corridor, spread across a vast desert. We will visit the Echoing Sand Dune. It is a sand mountain which stretches hundreds of kilometers in circumference and composed of numerous soft, lovely and zigzag sand dunes and ridges. When sitting in a row on the top of a dune or ridge and slipping down the slope, you will hear a roaring sound as the sand dune collapsed. The Cresent Moon Spring is a shallow spring which forms an oasis at the desert’s edge. The spring’s crescent moon shape gives it its name and the pool is able to withstand the extreme dryness of the Gobi, refusing to dry up. In the evening, visit the Shazhou Night Market.

09 DUNHUANG HAMI

This morning, visit Mogao Grottoes, also known as “1000 Buddha Cave” located 25km southeast of Dunhuang City. These caves were elaborately painted, the cave paintings and architecture served as aids to meditation, as visual representations of the quest for enlightenment, as mnemonic devices and as teaching tools to inform those illiterate about Buddhist beliefs and stories. After early lunch, we will drive to Hami for overnight stay.

10 HAMI TURPAN

After breakfast, drive to Turpan and visit Kazez Underground Channel, one of the famous architectural gems of the Silk Route. The ancient Kazez irrigation System is comprised of a series of well and linking underground channels that use gravity to bring water to the surface, usually from a far source. Next stop will be “The Ancient City of Gaochang”, situated 40km south-east of turpan town at the foot of the Flaming Mountain. Gaochang originally consists of three parts, the inner and outer cities and a palace complex. On the north of Gaochang lies the aptly named Flaming Mountains, they look like they’re on fire in the midday sun. Purplish brown in color, they are 100 km long and 10 km wide.

11 TURPAN URUMQI

This morning, proceed to Urumqi. Enroute, visit the scenic Heavenly Mountain and Heavenly Lake. Stretching 1,980metres above sea level on the slope of Bohda Peak, Heavenly Lake has an area of 4.9sq.km. It stores the melted snow from the surrounding mountains. Enjoy a boat ride here. After which, back in the city center and visit the Grand Bazaar for shopping, food and entertainment. The Grand Bazaar is the place to be any night of the week in Urumqi.

12 URUMQI BEIJING SINGAPORE

After breakfast, be transferred to airport for flight back to Singapore via Beijing.
